I was hoping for something more detailed. There isn't any mention of side hikes for the trip. It appears the author did not do any side exploring by foot. It mentions how he tried to drive to some spots later, but this is not what is needed.

This book has alot of written text about the history and geology of the canyon. There are many entries about where to camp. The author has included maps and photos as well.
What I find curious, is that Rampton doesn't really say much about side hikes. Maybe he's not a hiker. That and the fact that it's not a waterproof book brought my rating down to a 4.
I should also say, that there are no other books for Labyrinth Canyon that details the side hikes either.
However, if you combine this book with the Canyonlands River Guide (which is waterproof) you have some great resources for the trip. With the topo maps you can do some exploring into the side canyons. Who knows, maybe you can write a book about the side hikes. |
