We found this book quite useful. We ended up paddling our canoe on very pretty sections of the river that we would otherwise not have thought to visit. The book itself was certainly sturdy enough for our use while on the water. |

This book is printed on the same quality paper that is used for the Grand Canyon Guide and other river guides that are wet throughout the day. It has interesting details about the flora and fauna of the Deschutes River and beautiful photograpy to compliment the information.
This is a great guide for the flatwater and whitewater paddler alike and each section of the reiver has a detailed map with put-ins, hazards and geological features.
The best part is all the proceeds from this book go benefit the Bend Paddle Trail Alliance, a local non-profit that is working to transform a dangerous dam here in town into a whitewater recreation area

| The river guide is very complete and shows gps coordinates for every significant rapid as well as all the access points. It also lists each section of river by difficulty and alerts readers to all the hazards. I have used it for several years and it shows no signs of wear or tear. The map is also made of waterproof and tear proof material which is why the covers are pliable. This also allows the user to roll it up and stuff it into tight places without damaging the map. The map has been out for several years now and the owner of Tumalo Creek says it has been well received. I do not think you will be disappointed. |

I'm not sure what's up with Bummed and Disappointed but this book is really nice. There are topo maps of every section of the upper Deschutes. Other than the excellent descriptions on this site, this is the only guidebook ever made that details the upper Deschutes in it's entirety. That includes Soggy Sneakers and Paddling Oregon.
It's waterproof and very durable. I've used mine many times and treated it rough. It's holding up just fine.
In addition, the proceeds from the sale of this book goes to the Bend Paddle Trail Alliance which is a group of local boaters who have worked very hard to map and sign the upper Deschutes and to make it easily accessible by everyone. They are also in the process of building a whitewater park in Bend.
I recommend you buy the book and support the organization that supports Central Oregon boaters. |

Are you kidding me? Not magazine quality paper, but colored newspaper quality. Seriously! This thing doesn't stand a chance of holding up. One would think that the front cover would be thicker, stronger, laminated, etc., but no. Just like the
rest of the pamphlet. Don't waste your money. It is not worth the $6.00 shipping fee. I am super disappointed. :( |

We used the Paddle Guide while visiting Bend Oregon - my birth place. It was invaluable in planning and executing our various trips at different in and out points down the river. This map definitely has my A+. |
